Suggest a new type of "new media" that doesn't currently exist. Describe it.

A type of new media that doesn't currently exist could possibly Face Identification for a social media applications that you would have to use your own face to use and nobody elses or it would not work. This could potentially help people stop being deceived online by others pretending to be someone they are not. It wouldn't allow you to make more than one profile and could potentially decrease cyber bullying because then people cannot make fake pages to post hurtful things about one another.

BLOG: P2P

Blog: P2P

File sharing is when you transmit files from one computer to another computer over a network or through the internet. P2P File sharing or peer to peer file sharing is when you share digital media such as music over with a person that has P2P software. Some examples are sharing music or videos and watching television shows or movies or different sites with pirated movies. In the article " Digital Pirates winning Battle with studies" they say that many of  these sites are in countries where they do very little in piracy efforts so most studios cannot account for how content is being stolen.

In this post, discuss how the issues of privacy and confidentiality are related to new media
In society today there are so many different  forms of new media and social networking it can be hard to keep up. To sign up for some of these sites they make you give just a little bit of information and then soon after they want you to add more. If  a person is not reading all the terms and conditions for the each site like most of don't and just hit " I agree" we are giving these companies the right to share our information with who ever will give them the most money. Some sites allow for some confidentiality because most people can still see a lot of your information. I think more needs to be done for privacy or else people will not want to post at all.

BLOG SOCIAL NETWORKING

Social networking sites have really taken over the world in their ability to connect different types of people. Although you can connect with close friends and family you can also connect to people with similar interests  to you. These technologies can be used in a variety of different ways such as finding jobs, online dating, gaming, and different hobbies. The benefits that these technologies have on society is that for companies  using social networking they can see what is working and what is not by seeing comments from their consumers. For example on twitter if a popular food chain such as Wendy's  has a twitter than customers can connect with them if they have an issue with just a direct message or a tweet. In the article "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" by Frank Langfitt he discusses how sites such as LinkedIn is helping recruiters find people suitable for the different positions that companies need filled. Although there are positives there is also a dark side to social networking because it can interfere with your actual life. Using social networking and connecting with so many different people you can be subject to harassment or getting advice on topics from people who are not credible in that specific field. In the article " can you trust crowd wisdom?" by the Kristina Grifantini she discusses how consumer reviews may not be accurate because its possible a minority of users have taking over ratings to sway ideas in their direction.  So a person trying to gauge a new product could be turned away by all the bad reviews by such a very small number of people.  I think in the future these technologies will end up taking over how we do things. Everything from jobs and in the classroom will become more and more technological based and using these technologies will be the norm on how to connect with others.

BLOG V WIKI

Blogs and Wiki's are both ways in which you can connect with others in a creative space. Blogs are able to connect with others through comments while using a wiki the user can directly edit the content.  With a blog the creator is able to control the control the information that is being put out but with a wiki anybody can edit information so it is more susceptible to people adding inappropriate content on a certain topic. In the article " Wikipedia to limit changes to articles on people" by naom cohen it discussed a new policy of Wikipedia changing the way people are allowed to contribute. In this new policy it would require an experienced volunteer editor to sign off on certain revisions before it is made available to the public. But blogs can also be subject to inappropriate content for example   In the article "stung by a perfect sting" by Maureen Dowd she talks about how a model sued google to give up the name of the anonymous blogger who kept calling her derogatory names on there blog and ended up winning the lawsuit. A new use for wiki that has not been done would be a wiki for food. Different chefs would be able to collaborate on a specific recipe and see what ingredients works and what doesn't.

Research Topic- Internet Privacy

Recently for those that use social networking sites such as Facebook, Snapchat,  Instagram, Twitter and many others you might have noticed that you received emails about updated data and privacy laws and protections. It seems that now in society many people have shared so much of our lives that we might have kept private with the world. But what many might not have known is what happens to all the information that we put out on the web? What are the creators of our favorite social media apps doing with all the information we give them and even if we opt out to share information there could be a chance they still might able to acquire it. In this research assignment I will discusses how internet privacy has changed throughout the years with a variety of different perspectives such as technological, economic and sociological perspectives and the impacts it has on how we know social media today.
